Die Cut Box |
A box incorporating strucural features that cannot be manufactured on conventional scoring and slotting equipment. This style box must be produced on a die press
using a steel rule die to cut and crease the corrugated blank into a useable shape. |
Double Wall |
Two corrugated mediums with a linerboard facing adhered between them and on both sides |
Edge Crush Test (ECT) |
Test measuring edgewise compressive strength. Result expressed in pound force per inch required to cause compressive failure. A measure of box compression strength |
Flute |
Wave shape formed in the corrugated medium. There are A, B, C, E, and F flute specifications. A is the original flute size with 36 flutes per foot. B is 50 flutes per foot and is often
used for canned goods. C is the most common flute size with 42 flutes per foot, about half way between A and B. A C flute box is 11/64" thick. E flute size has 94 flutes per foot and
makes a flatter container with excellent crush strength. Being flatter is is more similar to a folding carton than A, B or C flute boxes.F flute size is 128 flutes per foot. |

Unbleached linerboard with at least 80% virgin wood pulp |
Medium (or Corrugated Medium) |
Paperboard used in forming the fluted part of the corrugated container |
Mullen Test |
Traditonal measure of box burst strength. Typically, various weights of linerboard and medium were combined to meet container requirements stated in terms of meeting Mullen
Test. Edge Crush Test (ECT) is a more recent and often favored measure of container strength. |
Regular Slotted Containers (RSC) |
A corrugated box with a one piece blank with the top and bottom flaps of equal length. When the flaps are folded down they meet at the center of the width of the box. |
Sheet Plant |
A box manufacturing facility without a corrugator. Sheets of corrugated material are used to manufacture boxes. |
Triple Wall |
Three corrugated mediums and four linerboard facings |
